Ned and I was inspired by a scene I have captured on a beach walk. It made me reflect on what freedom looks like today. How much of that freedom survives beneath the uniforms we wear—and whether we can still feel the sand under the feet as we walk alongside the parts of us that refuse to be domesticated. The cross-bread dog, the man in high-vis armour, and the viewer looking through the slitted portal of the welded frame - each have the potential to be Ned (Kelly), not the historical figure, but an archetype, the one who refuses to yield. The act of walking on the beach in steel‑caps after a long day of labour becomes an act of rebellion and the instinct to remain free.
